About the Speaker
David Breslauer is a scientist-founder working at the intersection of biotechnology, materials science, and AI. Driven by a vision of AI-accelerated discovery, his current work focuses on building data-driven design engines that combine machine learning, molecular modeling, and high-throughput datasets to map sequence–structure–property relationships for advanced protein materials.
In 2009, David co-founded Bolt Threads based on his foundational Ph.D. research on spider silk at UC Berkeley and UCSF. Evolving through executive roles as CSO, CTO, and CPO, he spearheaded the company’s end-to-end translation from a Berkeley lab concept to industrial-scale biomanufacturing. He led the molecular design, strain engineering, and commercial brand launches of groundbreaking product lines, including Microsilk (recombinant spider silk), Mylo (mycelium leather), and b-silk (beauty polypeptides).
An active mentor and inventor—having also built CellScope as a side project during his graduate studies—David advises deep-science organizations like Alphabet’s X, Arcaea, and numerous startups, helping founders translate complex lab innovations into highly scalable platforms.
