Regis B. Kelly, Ph.D.
QB3 Director
Regis B. Kelly, Ph.D. is a distinguished neuroscientist and former
executive vice chancellor of UCSF (from October, 2001 until January
31, 2004). As executive vice chancellor, Kelly oversaw the UCSF research
enterprise, which now totals about $465 million annually. He also
forged new research ties between the university and private industry.
Kelly directs the institute at its headquarters on UCSF's Mission
Bay campus and also maintains a Berkeley office. |

Sarah Nelson,
Ph.D.
UC San Francisco Scientific Director
Sarah Nelson, Ph.D. chairs UC San Francisco's Division of Bioengineering, is a member of the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, and serves as the Margaret Hart Surbeck Distinguished Professor of Advanced Imaging. She received her undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Manchester, England, and a doctorate in applied math and radiation biology from the University of Heidelberg, West Germany.

Fleming, Ph.D.
UC Berkeley Director
Graham Fleming, Ph.D., serves as Melvin Calvin Distinguished Professor
of Chemistry and as Senior Faculty Scientist in the Physical Biosciences Division at
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). He received his B.Sc.
in Chemistry from Bristol University, UK, and his Ph.D. in Physical
Chemistry from University of London, UK. He joined Berkeley and LBNL
in 1997.

David Haussler, Ph.D.
UC Santa Cruz Director
David Haussler, Ph.D., holds a UC Presidential Chair in Computer Science,
is Director of the Center for Biomolecular Science & Engineering at
UC Santa Cruz, and is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigator.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Connecticut
College, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Colorado
at Boulder. David

Clayton H. Heathcock, Ph.D.
UC Berkeley Chief Scientist
Clayton H. Heathcock, Ph.D., is a former Dean of the College of Chemistry and the Gilbert Newton Lewis
Professor of Chemistry at UC Berkeley. He chaired the Department of Chemistry from 1986-89 and
has served as dean since 1999. Since he began his research career at UC Berkeley in 1964, Heathcock
has published more than 270 papers in the field of organic synthesis. He earned his B.Sc. at Abilene
Christian College, Texas, and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of Colorado.

Susan Marqusee, Ph.D.
UC Berkeley Associate Director
Susan Marqusee, MD, Ph.D., is Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology,
Division of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She received her A.B.
in Physics and Chemistry from Cornell University in 1982, and her
M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University in 1990. After a post-doctoral
fellowship at MIT, she joined the UC Berkeley faculty as Assistant
Professor in 1992, advancing to Associate and Full Professor in 1998

Marc A. Shuman, M.D.
QB3 Clinical Director
Marc A. Shuman is Professor of Medicine and Leader of the Prostate Cancer Program at UC San Francisco. As Clinical Director for QB3, Shuman will catalyze and facilitate collaborations between clinical and basic scientists in QB3. He earned his M.D. from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1967.
